Cubs Edge Rangers In Extras
The Cubs bounced back from a series-opening loss on Friday night with a big 5-4 extra innings win over the Rangers last night. Alfonso Soriano cracked open scoring with a two-run shot in the second and Starlin Castro followed suit in the third. Starter Randy Wells pitched a strong 8.1 innings, striking out seven and allowing three runs but would get a no decision as the game remained tied 3-3 and headed to extras. Mike Fontenot's RBI single in the 10th gave the Cubs a lead and Derrek Lee would add an insurance run. Which proved necessary as Carlos Marmol, as he always does, made his save opportunity as nerve-wracking as possible, allowing one run but then shutting the door for the win. The teams wrap up their series this afternoon (1:05 p.m., WGN).

The Sox & Fire, after the jump.

Sox Hook Fish
The Sox should play NL teams more often. After going 2-4 against AL teams over the last week, the Sox are 2-0 against the NL as yesterday they beat the Marlins for a second straight game, this time by a 4-1 final. The Sox got all the runs they would need from Alex Rios who had an RBI single in the third and a two-run homer in the fifth. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Gavin Floyd had one of his best outings of the year - 6.1 IP, 7 Ks, 1 ER - earning his second win of the season; Bobby Jenks closed the game out for his seventh save of the year. The Sox go for the sweep this afternoon with Freddy Garcia taking the hill (1:05 p.m., CSN).

Fire Fall In Sister Cities Match
The Fire sat a lot of their main roster - McBride, Papa, Nyarko, etc - and it showed yesterday as they fell to Legia Warsaw 3-0 in the consolation match of the Sister Cities International Cup. Starting several youngsters, the Fire out-shot Legia 23-10 but still fell short on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Red Star Belgrade took the Cup as they defeated Paris-Saint Germain in a dramatic game settled by penalty kicks. Playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation, but Red Star prevailed by a 7-6 final to hoist the cup. The Fire, who haven't won a match since April 24, try to get back in the win column when they return to MLS play, hosting FC Dallas on Thursday night (7 p.m., ESPN2).
