Cubs Edge Rangers Again
After an inauspicious start to their weekend series in Texas, the Cubs wound up taking the series courtesy of their 5-4 win on Sunday, the same score they beat the Rangers by on Saturday. The Cubs had a big first inning, chipping away for two runs and getting a two-run homer from Alfonso Soriano, to take a 4-0 lead. With the lead cut to 4-3 in the sixth, a Koyie Hill RBI-single gave the Cubs what would prove to be the winning run. Starter Carlos Silva got win, moving to a team-best 6-0 on the year, while Carlos Marmol got three strikeouts in the ninth for his ninth save on the season. The Cubs get today off to travel home where they'll open a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers tomorrow night (7:05 p.m., CSN).
Sox Get Socked
The Marlins bats came alive yesterday, roughing up Sox pitcher Freddy Garcia as the Fish avoided a sweep, socking the Sox 13-0. Garcia gave up seven runs through 2.1 IP and the Marlins later teed off on reliever Randy Williams, scoring five more runs off of him. Meanwhile, the Sox bats managed just seven hits and no runs, hitting 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Not that it mattered given the runs the Marlins scored. Said Ozzie after the game, "Freddy came out today and did not have the stuff he's had for the last three or four outings. He's pitched well for us, very good for us, but today, he just did not have it." The Sox will try to bounce back tonight in Cleveland (6:05 p.m., WCIU).
