Do-Division Fest Returns Refreshed

By Sarah Cobarrubias in Arts & Entertainment on May 25, 2010 5:40PM

The sun is shining, the heat waves have begun and summer festival season is right around the corner. It’s almost time to block off the streets enjoy good food and live music with a few thousand strangers. Next weekend (June 5 and 6) is one of the season’s first street fests, the newly expanded Do-Division. The fest will stretch across ten blocks of Division between Ashland and Leavitt, lining the street with local vendors and boutiques and two separate stages for non-stop musical performances.

Last year’s Do-Division was perhaps a little less than noteworthy, but this year it will redeem itself with a promising musical line-up. Subterranean and House Call Entertainment organized the Leavitt stage’s lineup, which is made up almost entirely of local bands, such as Rego, Soft Speaker and Bailiff. But we’ll be spending most of our time in front of the Damen stage - the guys over at our beloved Empty Bottle Presents selected a blow-away lineup for this stage including big-name acts like YACHT, the Mynabirds and the Ponys, as well as local favorites like CoCoComa, Pelican and the Hood Internet.

Do-Division is all about local. The $5 donation entrance fee benefits local non-profits: West Town Chamber of Commerce (the fest’s organizer), Division Street Committee and four local elementary schools (A.N. Pritzker, LaSalle Magnet II, Anderson and De Diego). Even the featured beer, Pabst, was chosen because it’s a neighborhood favorite. Cheap beer, good food and amazing live music? Yes, please.
