The Morning After: Sox Best Cleveland

The White Sox, coming off of Sunday's shellacking at the hands of the Marlins, rebounded in Cleveland last night, riding a big first inning to a 7-2 win over the Indians. After RBIs from Alex Rios and Mark Kotsay, Mark Teahen belted a two-run double to cap off the big first inning. From there, the Sox cruised as John Danks pitched five solid innings, giving up only two runs and striking out five as he battled his way out of a few early jams. Said Danks after the game, "I wish I could have gotten deeper into the game. You know, I threw a lot of pitches in the fourth inning, a few tough at-bats, a few mistakes that they hit. It's nice to get a win, always more fun to win." The Sox bullpen also contributed, holding the Indians scoreless over the final four innings while the Sox bats added three more runs. Teahen knocked in another run and Rios belted a solo shot, his ninth home run of the season. At 19-25, the Sox are still in third place, seven games back of first-place Minnesota. Winners of three of their last four, they hope to keep up the momentum when they continue their three game set in Cleveland tonight, sending Jake Peavy to the mound (6:05 p.m., CSN+).
