Chicago Underground Comedy will celebrate its five year anniversary tonight at 9:30 p.m., at Beat Kitchen. Since its inception in May 2005, where it was housed in the back room of the now-defunct Gunther Murphy’s, ChUC has been a consistent showcase of the city’s top stand-up comics and national visitors. When co-founders Tony Sam and Brooke Van Poppelen headed to Los Angeles and New York City, respectively, the reins of this top level underground showcase were deftly taken over by Elizabeth McQuern and Dan Telfer. Telfer will celebrate the release of his first comedy CD this evening, in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations. In addition, Sam is visiting from L.A. and will be performing in tonight's show, of the room he began five years ago.

Telfer’s CD is part of an EP 3-pak, which also includes new works from Greg Proops and Paul F. Tompkins, released by A Special Thing Records. The CD can be purchased here, or from Telfer’s very hands at the Beat Kitchen, tonight.
