YAWN's New Video A Hodgepodge Of Pop-cultural Oddities

Chicagoans are probably sick of hearing about local indie Afro-poppers YAWN, what with their Pitchfork-driven accolades, their recent profile in the Reader, and this very here web rag reviewing their new remix EP. But when you self-released videos as out there as the one for “Kind Of Guy”, which premiered yesterday on P4K, you’re bound to generate at least some discussion.

Bookended with a mockery of dubious VHS tapes that suggest somebody’s been watching Everything is Terrible, “Kind of Guy” balances a trippy blend of Guitar Hero-styled vertical scrolling and weirdly hypnotic Tron-people shaking their junk in the background. And then the trippy visuals really start. Watch it after the jump, and prepare for your mellow to be harshed.
