The Morning After

Sox Best Bucs
The White Sox started their interleague road trip with a 6-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. Freddy Garcia wasn't great but he was good enough for the victory, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs and moving to 7-3 on the year. Gordon Beckham was the offensive star for the Sox, driving in three runs. Down 2-0 early, the Sox scored four straight runs only to let the Pirates tie the game at 4-4. But an RBI single from Beckham in the top of the sixth gave the Sox the lead for good. The Sox have now won six of their last eight and hope to keep rolling tonight when they send John Danks the hill (6:05 p.m., CSN).

Cubs Boot Game To A's
The Cubs were all thumbs last night, committing four errors - including two by Derrek Lee in one inning - on their way to a 9-5 loss to the Oakland A's. The A's scored four times in the top of the fourth thanks to the pair of Lee miscues though the Cubs cut back into that lead in the fifth and sixth innings. Down 5-4 in the seventh, a Tyler Colvin error in right aided the A's in scoring more runs and put the game out of reach for the Cubs. Sweet Lou put it simply: "It wasn't very pretty." The lone highlight? When Blackhawks Adam Burrish and Dave Bolland showed up on a rooftop with the Stanley Cup (photo 7). Losers of four of their last five, the Cubs hope Ryan Dempster can give them a spark tonight (7:05 p.m., WGN)
