Thursday nights in Chicago can range from an all night rager to a brief stop at your favorite spot for some patio drinks and conversation. If you desire something that is more of a happy medium, and are one of the few that still regard it as a school night, then our Chill Pick is for definitely for you.

AJ Kluth, jazz composer and saxophonist, brings the mellow sounds his new project, ALDRIC, to Logan Square's cocktail lounge, The Whistler tonight at 9:30 p.m. Kluth, primary composer and visionary, barrows from jazz greats like Dave Douglas as well as experimental indie giants like Tortoise and Kneebody.

Expect to hear some free-form experimental jazz here folks. Both the trumpet, played by James Davis of the experimental jazz project Zing!and Kluth are using guitar pedals to incorporate atmospheric textures into their sound. Kluth also utilizes a melodica to achieve some of the band's more eerie sound-scapes. Kluth has told us very little preparation goes into these compositions, so what ever comes off the stage will be "very fresh indeed."

ALDRIC has no demos recorded as of yet, but if Kluth's other projects (L’Orchestre Super Vitesse, AJ Kluth Quintet), are any indication, we are confident it should be an interesting night to say the least.
