Tomorrow, expats Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Thomas Middleditch will be screening their series of short films, Memoirs of a Manchild, as one of the last events of this year’s Just for Laughs Chicago Festival. In addition to the screening, several of Vogt-Roberts and Middleditch’s favorite comics will perform and harangue the couple for their nerd-dom; being one of the last events of the festival, it would not be surprising to see a few surprise guests show up, as well.

Recently, Vogt-Roberts has been enjoying dozens of positive reviews for his short film, Successful Alcoholics (starring TJ Miller and Lizzy Caplan; screened at this past Wednesday’s JFL showcase “Drinking Buddies” at the Lincoln Lodge, and at the Independent Midwest Film Festival on June 1). “We premiered at Sundance and have since played at SXSW, the LA Film Festival and more than fifteen other fests. We won best comedy at the Puerto Rico Film Festival. It's just great to see people responding well to it,” he said.

Vogt-Roberts is currently working on a Comedy Central special titled “Mash Up.” The special will star former Chicago stand-up comedians Matt Braunger, Hannibal Buress, Kyle Kinane, TJ Miller, and Kumail Nanjiani, and will combine stand-up with short films in what Vogt-Roberts calls “the Blerds format,” a style he perfected while working on short comedy films in Chicago a few years ago. “Comedy Central really likes what we've shot so far. We're probably looking at a September or October air date,” he said.

Join Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Thomas Middleditch for Memoirs of a Manchild tomorrow, Saturday, June 19, at iO Theater, 3541 N Clark, 11:59 p.m., $5.
