Inherit The Windbag: Blago & Bloomberg

By Marcus Gilmer in News on Jun 22, 2010 9:20PM

We've know that there have been ties between former governor Rod Blagojevich and current NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg - such as Bradley Tusk who used to be Blago's Deputy Gov and then a special assistant to Bloomberg and testified in the Blago trial yesterday. The Mothership Gothamist pointed us to another connection, specifically photos of Mayor Bloomberg and then-Governor Blagojevich hobnobbing in 2003 as the two rallied together, calling on the FDA to allow the import of prescription drugs from Canada. No word if this was after the 2003 flight to NYC during which Blago allegedly discussed his Presidential aspirations.

Mayor Bloomberg today discussed donations to Blago's campaign in 2006 which have been touched on in Blago's trial.

Mr. Bloomberg said that he and Mr. Blagojevich shared similar views on abortion rights, gun control laws and the importation of prescription drugs from Canada.

“I made lots of campaign donations at that time. His was less than some of the others,” Mr. Bloomberg said. “There was never any scandal about him in those days and so I supported him.”

We suppose when you have pockets as deep as Bloomberg, you can donate to anyone you please. And, not coincidentally, Mayor Bloomberg is also an official who has reportedly had previous Presidential aspirations.
