Farmers Market Roundup - First Trip to Green City

By Anthony Todd in Food on Jun 22, 2010 4:00PM

After a few weeks of roaming the markets of the city, we finally made it to to Green City Market for the first time this past Saturday. If you haven't gotten a chance to go yet this summer, check it out - things have changed! The market seems much bigger, the stalls have been re-arranged and there are plenty of new things to see. We'll profile a few of those new things over the summer (Ed. Note: Actually, we've already started. — C.S.), but on Saturday we were more focused on getting as many veggies as possible.

Early summer produce is out in force, so expect lots and lots of leafy greens, as well as early vegetables like radishes, kohlrabi and spring onions. The very first large tomatoes are popping up at a few stands, as well as some green tomatoes, but if you haven't finished planting your garden, there are plenty of seedlings and hanging plants for you to browse. Strawberries have mostly finished, but we hardly noticed as the cherries are everywhere. The produce gods were smiling on us - the only day it didn't rain was market day.
