One Good Bite: Chinese Yum Yum's Honey Garlic Chicken Wings

It's hard to screw up a chicken wing, yet there are places across the city that manage to do so. On a tip from Michael Nagrant, who's worked his way through his share of good and bad wings, we headed to Chinese Yum Yum, a newish Greektown spot with a name that demands to be immortalized on Engrish.com, for their honey glazed chicken wings. Nagrant called these wings a "combination between Harold's and Crisp."

Turned out it wasn't hyperbole. These little wings are fried hard like Harold's, the meat working with ease off the bone. That hard skin is seasoned thoroughly with a honey barbecue sauce and peppered liberally with garlic for a ultimately satisfying snack. (Ask for wet naps).

Good as these were, Chinese Yum Yum's owners said that their hot wings are even better. Given that the gold standard for Chinese hot wings are found at Crisp or Take Me Out, that's a challenge for another day. If chicken wings aren't your thing, Chinese Yum yum also has some standouts among the traditional takeout staples on their menu. Highly recommended is their fish filet congee, which melds a satiny ginger-scented rice porridge with a grilled whitefish filet.
