The Morning After: Sox Rally Past Rangers

The Sox had better luck yesterday than their North Side counterparts as they rallied for a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers in the opener of their weekend series. Down 3-1 heading into the seventh inning, Alex Rios and Paul Konerko both knocked in runs to tie the game at 3-3. And in the top of the ninth, Mark Kotsay smacked a two-out, two-run double put the Sox ahead for good. Freddy Garcia gave up all three Ranger runs in six innings of work, getting a no decision; J.J. Putz got the win in relief and Matt Thornton picked up the save. It was a clutch win for the Sox as it kept them from falling further into a post-win-streak slump and it also came against a team almost as hot as they've been in the Rangers (16 wins in their last 20 games). Ozzie was upbeat after the game, saying, "We take advantage when we have people on base. That's the way we are going to have to play. We also had clutch hitting. That's what we were missing in Kansas City." The Sox currently remain two games back of division-leading Minnesota and one-game back of second-place Detroit in the AL Central. The Sox hope to make up a little more ground tonight when John Danks get the start (7:05 p.m., WGN).
