Cubs Tip Phils
The Cubs continued their positive start to the second half of the season yesterday with a nice 4-3 win over the Phillies. Tied at 1-1 in the sixth, Ryan Howard belted a two-run homer off of Ted Lilly but Marlon Byrd answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run shot of his own so the Cubs could keep pace. And in the bottom of the eighth, it was Aramis Ramirez knocking a solo home run for the eventual game-winning run for the Cubs. Lilly allowed three runs over seven innings but was left with a no-decision. Sean Marshall pitched a scoreless eighth and got the win while Carlos Marmol struck out the side in the ninth for his 17th save on the year. Randy Wells takes the hill for the Cubs this afternoon as they try to make it three-straight (12:05 p.m., CSN).

Twins Halt Sox Streak
The White Sox latest winning streak has halted at nine games last night when the Minnesota Twins rode five unearned runs to a 7-4. win over the Sox. Four White Sox errors didn't help matters for the Sox pitching staff as miscues in the fourth and eighth innings gave the Twins a gateway to plenty to runs as Gavin Floyd wound up taking the loss for the Sox. The Sox tried to rally, piecing together a few runs, and even scored twice in the top of the ninth and even had the bases loaded with one out but couldn't bring home any more runs. The Sox hope to start another winning streak tonight (6:10 p.m., WGN).
