The Morning After

Sox Dispatch Seattle
The White Sox shook off a rough weekend in Minnesota and got back in the win column with a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. Alex Rios knocked in three runs, including a two-run homer, and Andruw Jones went yard for the Sox as well. Rookie pitcher Dan Hudson went 6.2 innings, struck out six and allowed just one run to get his first win of the season (and only the second of his major league career). A good, bounce back after blowing Sunday's game at Minnesota, the Sox extended their slim lead over the slumping Detroit Tigers (six straight losses) and the Twins (who also lost Monday). The Sox will go for another win when they send John Danks to the hill later tonight (9:10 p.m., WGN).

'Stros Thump Cubs
By the time many fans were just settling into their seats at Wrigley, the Cubs were already down 5-0 and on their way to a series-opening 11-5 loss to the Houston Astros. Down 8-2 in the sixth, Aramis Ramirez and Tyler Colvin both went deep, but it was far too little of an effort to overcome the large deficit. Carlos Silva's struggles continued as he only lasted one inning before being yanked. After an 8-0 start to the year, Silva is 1-4 with two no-decisions in his last seven starts. Ryan Dempster, who in contrast has won three of his last four starts, tries to get the Cubs a victory tonight (7:05 p.m., CSN).
