Snoop Dogg Brings Youth Football To Chicago

File this under, "Sure, makes sense": rapper, actor, father figure, and wealthy gadabout Snoop Dogg is bringing his Los Angeles-based Snoop Youth Football League to Chicago and the man himself will be here to promote it on Friday, including hosting a camp for 200 CHA boys, ages 8 to 14. The Chicago chapter will be the first located outside of California. According to Cheryl Jackson at the Sun-Times, who couldn't resist the urge to say "touchdizzle":
The five-year-old league has about 2,500 players on 12 teams.A Pittsburgh Steelers fan and former high school quarterback, Snoop invested $1 million to start the program in 2005. He has since put in about $300,000 into the league, which charges less per player than Pop Warner teams and opens participation to parents with criminal records. Snoop, whose legal name is Calvin Broadus, has coached his son's youth and high school football teams.
At the end of the season, the two best teams play in the, yep, Snooper Bowl. Not much has been announced about the league but we suspect that'll change on Friday. Not that Snoop's league (or Snoop himself) has been free from controversy. Still, we'll hand it to Snoop: it takes some deft personal image management to successfully manage a youth football league despite a controversial past that includes numerous drugs and weapons charges, being banned from several countries, and a stint as a pimp.
