Question Mark & the Mysterions Cry All "96 Tears" At Reggie's

questionmark.jpg The song "96-tears" is something that we've all heard and sang along to at one point or another when we've tuned the radio to the oldies station. A psychedelic classic punctuated by a pounding, swirling vox-organ riff and snarling vocals resembling many similar bands of the era. The number-one-hit by Question Mark and the Mysterians has made its way onto many movie soundtracks, commercials and stereos over the years thanks to the Nuggets compilation and a general love of the irresistible tune. Well, this Friday you will be able to see the song, and many others, preformed live at Reggie's Rock Joint.

Though Question Mark is mainly known for this song, his strange persona has often taken the spotlight in his over 50-year-career. Question Mark, a.k.a. Rudy Martinez, claims to be a Martian who lived with the dinosaurs in a past life and never, ever appears in public without his sunglasses.

We have seen Question Mark before, and we must say, it is always a quite delirious and interesting experience. Also gracing the stage will be similar garage/mod enthusiasts, The Electric Mess, our personal local-favorite, The Outer Minds, The Runnies and The Bama Lamas.

There should be no shortage of amusing people watching. Previous shows we've attended garner both young and old fans, usually dressed in the era's mod garb with plenty of shimmy's and shakes. We highly recommend attending this one kids.

Question Mark & the Mysterians, Friday July 23, 8 p.m., Reggie's, 2105 S. State St., 21+, $12 in advance, $15 at the door
