CBS Investigates Public Sex "Near" the MSI

2009_06_19_MSI.jpg Pam Zekman, an investigative reporter for CBS 2, is always one to go after the pressing issues that affect Chicago citizens most -- and this time, it's sex in public on the city's South Side. Zekman received a tip from a man who regularly drives school kids to the Museum of Science and Industry, who says he's spotted naked men have oral sex in their cars and engaging in "sexual activity" in a nearby public restroom in a parking lot supposedly right by the MSI. He called the activity "disgusting for the location" and "disrespectful for the kids and the tourists that come out there."

CBS says men are driven to the area by the Cruising Gays website, which highlights popular "cruising" spots around the city. But the site directs people to head to the parking lot off 63rd/Hayes Drive, a fairly good distance away from the MSI on the other side of the East Lagoon. And the tennis courts where a man was quoted as saying the "horrible and despicable" activities are taking place are south of the parking lot and even farther away from the MSI.

Despite CBS witnessing a "parade of cars driven by single men" going in and out of the lot, there was no mention of how many vehicles parked in the lot with visitors making the four block trek to the MSI. The museum tells CBS that "none of this activity is happening in their underground, secured parking lot," where it would seem the vast majority of people traveling to the museum by car would likely park.
