Cubs Hold Off Cards
The Cubs continued to make a little ground in the NL Central as they won their second straight game over their rivals from St. Louis with a 6-5 win yesterday. Rookies Tyler Colvin and Starlin Castro were the stars early for the Cubs, both homering in the early innings to help the Cubs build a 4-2 lead. The Cubs added two more in the fifth thanks to a wild pitch that allowed two runs to score. The Cards chipped away at the lead with a run in the seventh and the eighth off of Cubs relievers, but Carlos Marmol held in the ninth for the save. Tom Gorzelanny got the win, allowing three runs over six innings pitched. The loss dropped the Cards out of the top spot in the NL Central and the Reds now lead St. Louis by a half-game. The Cubs are hoping for a sweep when they take the Cards on once more tonight (7:05 p.m., ESPN).

A's Pound Sox
The Sox found themselves on the wrong end of a whooping last night, falling to the A's 10-2. Starter Freddy Garcia didn't even last two full innings, pulled after giving up five runs but reliever Tony Pena didn't do much better, giving up four runs himself as the A's offense poured it on. A Ramon Castro two-run homer provided the only offense the Sox produced all day. Rookie Dan Hudson gets the start this afternoon as the Sox look to bounce back and take the series (3:05 p.m., CSN).
