Sox Top M's
The Sox prevented a three-game losing streak in their return home last night, topping the Mariners 6-1 as John Danks out-dueled Felix Hernandez. Danks threw eight solid innings, allowing just one run and one walk. Six different Sox players scored as Juan Pierre had two RBI and Paul Konerko smacked his 22nd homer of the year. It was the Sox 15th win in their last 16 games at home sweet home and it was Dank's fourth straight win. With their lead over Detroit in the AL Central a slim one game, the Sox hope to keep the win streak going tonight when Gavin Floyd takes the hill (7:10 p.m., CSN).

Sharp Silva Downs 'Stros
Carlos Silva didn't pitch long - just five innings - but it was enough as a sharp performance helped the Cubs to a 5-2 win over the Astros. It was only SIlva's second win in his last eight appearances. The Cubs also got more production out of their offense. After a host of missed scoring opportunities on Sunday night, the Cubs, well, weren't all that much better last night, going 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and leaving eight runners stranded. But they still produced thanks to doubles by Geovany Soto (two RBI) and Alfonso Soriano (RBI) and a rare homer from Ryan Theriot. Back to Silva: it was only his second win since starting the season 8-0 but in spite of the recent struggles, Silva has paid off as the player received in the deal to rid the team of Milton Bradley. Said Lou, "He's done a real nice job here. He's a professional and he's throwing more pitches because he's getting deeper in counts. What is he, 10-4? I think Jim [Hendry] would've done cartwheels." The Cubs hope Ted Lilly can help them string together two wins in a row in what may be his last start for the team as the trade deadline nears (7:05 p.m., WGN).
