Weekend Dance Party: Jokers of the Scene Hit Metro

2010_jots.jpg Canadians are doing it big. Real big. We could rattle off a list of 10-15 Canuck acts currently doling out some of music's finest tunes (Arcade Fire, Chromeo, etc.). Some of you saw evidence of this last weekend when our northern friends Azari & III tore up Smart Bar with their deep disco-soul. The trend continues this weekend with Jokers of the Scene, a techno/house duo known for making some of the darkest, most danceable tunes in the scene. They'll be headlining One Night Stand's official Lollapalooza kick-off party at Metro and it's our pick for Weekend Dance Party.

We've had the pleasure of seeing JOTS two times in the past and it's something of a mindtrip. JOTS like to keep it simple - no crazy mixing techniques or frills, just prime cuts that emphasize deep bass and the proven formats of dance music. Their remixes are some of the finest around, perhaps only surpassed by their original work. The duo will be joined by sets from Team Bayside High and Moneypenny, among others, so get there early and dance until the lovely Metro staff kicks you out. You can even get in for free if you pick up a wristband at the Adidas store on Rush St., who are helping sponsor the event.

Jokers of the Scene, Saturday, 10pm, Metro, $10, 21+
