Night Beats isn’t some sleezy trance and techno-only nightclub like the name might suggest, but rather a Seattle-based trio with a knack for psychedelic rock. They’ve got the type of grungy, lo-fi sound that seems like it came straight of out a garage in, well, Seattle. The three-piece recently released their second EP, H-Bomb, through Chicago’s own Trouble in Mind Records. The four-song 7” EP is short but powerful, containing Night Beats’ wild energy in one small package and spewing out fuzzy, hypnotic melodies, piercing guitar solos and raw, howling vocals. Sample it for yourself by checking out the video for the album’s single “Shadows in the Night" below.

Celebrating the new EP, the three-piece is in the midst of a 30-city US tour and will be making a stop in Chicago tomorrow night at the Empty Bottle. But there’s bad news for anyone who penciled in their free Sunday matinee at Reckless Records, because that show has just been cancelled. Oh well. The murky, basement-like space of our beloved Bottle is better suited for Night Beats' loose and rowdy live performance anyway. Also playing are local acts TV Set, The Clams, Electric Hawk and DJ Psyched Alex.

Night Beats play Saturday, July 31, Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 9 p.m., $8, 21+
