2010_08_TOTN.gif Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation, one of the biggest gatherings of chef and bartending talent this year, takes place next Thursday at the Aragon Ballroom. The annual event raises money for for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Near North Health Services and the Illinois Hunger Coalition, three organizations fighting the rise of childhood hunger in the greater Chicago area..

In keeping with one of the bigger local food-related stories of the year, this year's theme TOTN theme will center on street food. The 50 participating chefs and 25 cocktailers, led by event co-chair Mindy Segal, have been tasked with coming up with dishes and drinks they would serve if they had a food cart or truck, looking to street food culture as an inspiration. With general admission tickets priced at $95, this an event priced for anyone who loves food, wishes to get involved in a charity, or enjoy an event like none other. (Disclosure: I'm also on the planning committee for the event.)
