Weekend Dance Party: In Flagranti And More Hit Smart Bar

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 12, 2010 9:30PM

2010_08_12_inflagranti.jpg We're reeling a bit from the past few Weekend Dance Parties. Last week A-Trak, Peanut Butter Wolf, Mayer Hawthorne and Treasure Fingers brought their traveling Discotheque tour to Spy Bar and filled the night with an endless supply of boogie and funky disco. This week's pick for Weekend Dance Party continues with our current obsession of (nu-)disco (as well it should). In Flagranti, Matt Roan, Kid Color and Sparkletone complete one of the best disco lineups Chicago's summer has seen as they take over Smart Bar this Friday night.

In Flagranti hail from Brooklyn and are responsible for a particularly fresh, albeit stranger form of disco music. Their music incorporates elements of punk, indie rock, disco and, in some cases, even house. Don't get us wrong, the music isn't traditional disco. Think more "disco sounds". Nonetheless, In Flagranti make some great music and we're excited to see it translate into a Smart Bar setting. With them are none other than Matt Roan, Kid Color and Sparkletone, DJs we can personally profess as some of the city's best. On top of their funk they are - don't miss it.

In Flagranti, Friday, August 13, at Smart Bar, 3730 N Clark, $5+, 21+
