A pleasant contrast to Norway’s black metal scene, Casiokids’ name pretty much sums up its sound - the Norwegian act makes retro electro-pop melodies using vintage keyboards, mellow vocal harmonies, and kooky synth beats and samples. The kids are currently touring the U.S. in support of their recently released debut album, Topp stemning på lokal bar (which translates into “great vibe at local bar”). And who else are they touring with but Chicago’s own Light Pollution, who also recently released their debut LP, Apparitions. Though Casiokids cut the tour short, canceling the last four stops on the agenda, their show at Schubas this Wednesday is still a go.

Be forewarned: this show's going to be pretty strange. Casiokids are known for their theatrical live performance, which often includes animal costumes and both shadow and real puppets. Of course, the lyrics are in their native language, so most of the crowd will have no idea what they’re actually singing. But worry not, because these guys are all about the beats, so you’ll be dancing uncontrollably along with the rest of the clueless audience. These Norwegian weirdos along with Light Pollution’s trippy psychedelia will be just right for anyone looking to liven up an otherwise dull humpday.

Casiokids and Light Pollution play Wednesday, Aug 25 at Schubas, 3159 N Southport, 9 p.m., $10, 21+
