2010_8_arra_logo.jpg According to Crain's Chicago Business, the state of Illinois has caulked and weatherized more than 30 percent of the homes it plans to insulate this year, thanks to grants from the Department of Energy and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. According to DOE the program supported nearly 600 jobs in Illinois.

The state has received only half of its allotted funding of $242 million. DOE will grant the rest to the state now that the 30 percent milestone has been reached. Recovery funding pays for weatherization of homes, energy audits and replacement of heating and cooling systems for low-income families. Additionally the Community and Economic Development Assn. of Cook County will net nearly $7 million to expand its weatherization program as well.
