The first half of this week was dominated by the entry of a new political force on the Chicago scene. In a city that's still wondering exactly who we're going to be deciding on in terms of who will be running Chicago, our own Editor-in-Chief broke the news of the plans for the River Alligator to run for Mayor of Chicago. Since then, the city has been awash with rumors on his origins, his intentions, his chosen issues and just who his constituency would be.

Today on 10With, Chicagoist political consultant Kevin Robinson and your host will handicap the race, discuss the rumors swirling about the Mayor Gator candidacy, talk about whether the riverfront wards would be for or against a Gator in City Hall, how an independent gator candidate will excite a new voting block, and what it means to be running as a newcomer - some would say alien - to Chicago. The MayorGator.com website hasn't gone live yet, but when it does, you can count on the Chicagoist Podcast Series for breaking Mayor Gator coverage. In related news, August can't be over soon enough.
