Northwest Meets Midwest: Harvest Season Wine Tastings

By Carrie Becker in Food on Sep 10, 2010 3:40PM

Ahhh, harvest season. For most of us this indicates a time to slow down and ease into the our impending hibernation mode, but for wine growing regions harvest time means long days, laborious hours dedicated to the vines with little time for relaxation or even travel. So it’s a treat that winemaker Julia Cattrall from Lumus winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley has slipped in one more trip to Chicago before the season beckons her home.

On Saturday, September 11th, Cattrall will pour free tastes of last year’s harvest by way of the Lumos Rudolfo Pinot Gris, Temperance Hill Pinot Gris and Gewurtztraminer at In Fine Spirits. All of these bright white wines are ready to drink now.

Once you get your free tasting in, round up twenty bucks and head next door to sample six of her Lumos and Dominio IV wines paired with tasting bites prepared by Chef Marianne Sundquist.

Sounds like a lovely way to celebrate the harvest season.
