It was only a matter of time before the John Hancock Observatory came up with a tourist attraction as attention-grabbing as The Willis Tower's glass cubes. Starting January 1, Hancock visitors will be able to ice skate 1,030 feet above the ground at "The World's Highest" ice rink, as the Hancock is referring to it.

Unfortunately, the ice isn't exactly "ice," its synthetic ice and according to the Chicago Sun-Times, it looks like "a giant plastic cutting board" and is "too small for a triple Lutz or a back flip." You can test it out for yourself starting January 1 through March 31. The cost is $5 for a 25-minute skating session and skate rental is $1. In addition, the ice rink is also available for private events and other functions. So if your parents never gave you that 3rd grade ice skating party like they promised, here's your chance to up the ante on your childhood friends.
