Nine People Shot--Including Cop--In Six Hours

Another wave of violence started at 6 p.m. on Saturday when a 13-year-old boy playing with a gun accidentally shot himself in the leg in the 2000 block of West Howard Street and ended at 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning when a suspect in a vehicle shot a male in the 0-100 block of West 108th Place, police said to the Chicago Sun-Times. The 13-year-old boy was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and is listed in "stable" condition and the male on the South Side was listed in good condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Earlier on Saturday evening at 6:14 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the right forearm in the 400 block of East 134th Street. He is listed in good condition at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island. Less than an hour later, a police officer was shot in the 7400 block of South Shore Drive by a suspect that crashed the car he carjacked on the Dan Ryan Expressway earlier in the day. A shoot-out between the carjacker and police ended in a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department getting shot once in his vest and once in his shoulder. The officer was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was released early this morning, police said. The suspect has been identified and police are currently looking for a gold 2002 Dodge, which the suspect carjacked from an elderly woman to flee the shooting.
Later in the evening, three teens were shot around 9:35 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Aberdeen Street and all are listed in "stable" condition early Sunday morning. At 11:18 p.m., a man driving in the 2100 block of North Keeler Avenue refused medical attention after suffering a graze wound to the leg when someone shot at him. Less than twenty minutes later in the 4900 block of West Adams Street, an 18-year-old was shot in the arm after he got in a fight with several people. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Around midnight, a 24-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the back while he was walking in the 600 block of North Ashland Avenue. He was released from John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital several hours later. No one has been taken into custody for any of the shootings as of early Sunday.
