City Tracks Stolen Truck Via GPS

By Marcus Gilmer in News on Sep 15, 2010 9:10PM

2010_09_15_GPS.jpg Usually, GPS systems in city trucks are used to keep tabs on employees and make sure they're not slacking off. But for once it was used to track an actual stolen truck as thieves made off with a Department of Water Management truck which was later tracked down a few hours later via its GPS. But its still got a few employees into hot water:

A night investigator for the city's Department of Water Management is in hot water after his truck was stolen early Saturday morning from the parking lot of a Burrito King on the Far Northwest Side.

The investigator and several members of his crew had apparently stopped for tacos, even though they are paid to work eight hours straight.

Of course, this is the Dept. of Water Management which was at the center of the Hired Trucks scandal so, really, no surprises here.
