Michelle Obama: White House Life Is "Hell, I Can't Stand It."

At least, that's according to Carla Bruni, wife of French PM President Nicolas Sarkozy. A new book written in collaboration with Bruni claims that when she asked Michelle how living in the White House was, she replied "Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!" The Daily Mail in London was the first to report the statement which supposedly took place this March during the Sarkozy visit to Washington.
As though being watched every second of every day and requiring a full motorcade every time you wanted to leave the house could ever be considered less than awesome. The White House and Michelle have officially denied the statement, and Bruni is distancing herself from it as well. Not that there's no precedent for first ladies not loving the lifestyle at 1600 Pennsylvania - Hillary Clinton discussed life in the White House (with Tyra Banks!) during the '08 campaign for President, calling it "lonely" and isolating.
Despite the official denial, it could very well suck to go from being a relatively unknown private citizen to living in what Truman called "the crown jewel of the American penal system." As much of a privilege it might be to be married to the Leader of the Free World, it also might suck no matter if your mom's there or not.
