Lebowskifest Really Ties The Weekend Together

By Steven Pate in Arts & Entertainment on Sep 17, 2010 6:30PM

At this point, nothing not much needs to be said about The Big Lebowski. The Coen brothers' shambolic 1998 comedy, a perfectly-cast pastiche of detective stories, westerns, film noir, grail legends, the fallout of the sixties is well on its way to becoming the definitive cult classic of its time. For proof, look no further than the 9th(!) annual Lebowskifest, which swerves through town this weekend.

If you are an "Achiever," which is to say a die-hard fan, you can probably rattle off every line Steve Buscemi speaks in the movie on command, while mixing a pretty mean White Russian. You probably also already have your ticket to tomorrow's sold-out bowling/costume party at Diversey Bowl. Competition can be fierce, but don't cut your toe off just to get an advantage in the costume contest. You'll mess up your bowling form. Plus you can still win the trivia portion.

For the uninitiated or just late-to-the-game, tonight's Movie Party at the Portage theater
The evening begins with Creedence Clearwater Revival cover band Blue Moon Swamp and a Lebowski Burlesque performance, Rolling Outta Here Naked, by Vaudezilla and First Jason, before the screening of the film itself in 35mm.

Lebowskifest Movie Party will happen at Portage Theater, 4050 Milwaukee Avenue. Tickets are $22 . Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm. All Ages.
