CBS 2: Stop Cruising On The Beach

Ah, summertime in the City of Chicago. Street fests galore, the Cubs and Sox annual spin into futility, the bouts of heat and humidity, and, of course, trips to the beach. But a hard-hitting report this morning from CBS 2 is targeting one particular group of ne'er-do-wells: those who use the beach and bird sanctuary at Montrose as their own personal Playboy grotto. According to some flustered viewers who hit up the network, there's a lot of cruising going on in the area and bird watchers and beach-goers alike are not happy about it. It's worth noting that the official Park District site refers to the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary as "The Magic Hedge." Just sayin'. Thankfully, for them and for us, CBS 2 is on the case:

CBS 2 watched with hidden cameras for several days as men circled the path. They weren't looking for birds, they seemed to be looking for a hookup.

[Bird watcher and Chicago Police Det. Louis] Munoz says he's caught many people in the act.

"I told these guys, 'Get outta here, I'm calling the police,'" he said. "I take out my cell phone, and these guys took off like rabbits - both of them. The one guy was pulling up his pants."

"I bring my kids here, I bring my daughter here, I bring my two nephews here," Munoz said, explaining his anger. "They should not have to see this junk at a nature preserve."

If this all sounds a little familiar, it's because CBS 2 was also the network that brought the hammer down on similar shenanigans happening near the Museum of Science and Industry earlier this summer. We suppose in a competitive media market like Chicago, a network's gotta do what a network's gotta do; CBS 2 has certainly cornered the market on the "public sex shenanigans" angle (stadium bathroom stalls don't apply). It's only a matter of time before The Eye recruits Carl Monday for their investigative team.
