Southwest, Airtran Merging

The two largest airlines out of Midway announced a merger this morning as Southwest Airlines plans to purchase AirTran for $1.4 billion. The new airline would assume operations by 2012 under the current plan. It comes on the heels of the previously announced United-Continental merger.
