Cubs Blank Padres
An RBI single in the top of the ninth by Brad Snyder broke a scoreless tie in a pitcher's duel as the Cubs beat the Padres 1-0 in the series finale. Tom Gorzelanny was sharp, pitching six scoreless innings (which only earned him the dreaded 'no-decision'). The Cubs' bullpen was even sharper, allowing no hits and no walks as the Cubs played spoiler for Padres who are still trying to make their way into the post-season. With the series done, the Cubs now move to Houston where they'll close out the season with a three-game set this weekend against the Astros starting tonight (7:05 p.m., CSN).

Sox Slam Boston
Paul Konerko belted a grand slam to break an early 2-2 tie as the White Sox cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Red Sox last night. Dayan Viciedo added to the run total in the fifth with a two-run homer of his own. John Danks had a good outing on the hill, allowing just two runs over six innings while striking out six, good enough to earn his 15th win of the season. The Sox have now won 7 of their last 8 games, including taking the Battle of the Sox 3-1, and hope to keep the momentum up in their season-closing series against Cleveland which kicks off tonight (7:10 p.m., CSN+).
