Morning Box Score: Blackhawks Stumble In Opener

By Chuck Sudo in News on Oct 8, 2010 3:00PM

Avalanche 4, Blackhawks 3: Paul Stastny scored two goals, including the game winner 3:40 into the overtime period, as Colorado beat the Hawks in their season opener. The Avalanche built a 3-1 lead early, but goals by Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp forced the extra period.

Bryan Bickell scored the Hawks first goal but also had a turnover that led to a goal, while Marty Turco stopped 37 shots in the loss. Overall, the Blackhawks played with a lot of energy, but there were signs that the new players are still finding their way in Coach Joel Queeneville's puck possession game.
