Sosa's Corked Bat Goes To Auction

2010_10_11_Corky.jpg It's the bat that at once exposed Sammy Sosa as a cheater and was the first crack in his relationship with both Cubs brass and fans. We're referring, of course, to Sosa's corked bat. The former Cubs slugger was caught using the batJune 3, 2003 against the Tampa Bay Rays when it shattered in the first inning. Sosa was eventually suspended eight games for the incident and, while the handle of the bat was confiscated, the barrel of the bat was never found.

Former Cubs reliever Mike Remlinger found the bat between the Cubs dugout and clubhouse, and hid it in a fishing rod case above his locker. Now, Remlinger has placed the bat on the auction block after an attempt to reach out to Sosa to return the bat proved futile. The current high bid on the bat stands at $3,975. Bidding ends at the end of the month.
