Morning Box Score: Blackhawks Trip Sabres

By Chuck Sudo in News on Oct 12, 2010 1:00PM

Blackhawks 4, Sabres 3: The Blackhawks finally notched their first win of the season last night, but they didn't make it easy as Corey Crawford save 32 shots on goal and Marian Hossa scored twice to beat Buffalo. Nick Leddy and Patrick Kane also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Probably the most talked about play of the game was a vicious hit by Niklas Hjalmarsson on Buffalo right wing Jason Pominville in the first period. Hjalmarsson checked Pominville hard from behind into the boards with 5:42 to go. Pominville was carted off the ice on a stretcher with a concussion and a cut above his right eye that required 7-8 stitches. Hjalmarsson was given a game misconduct and a 5-minute major on the play, and most likely will face further reprimand from the NHl for the play.
