Tuesday Afternoon Diversion: The Simpsons Banksy Couch Gag

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 12, 2010 8:00PM

Yesterday the interwebs were blowing up about Sunday night's opening to "The Simpsons," which featured a couch gag by the secretive artist Banksy depicting the Far East sweatshops in which the show, and its lucrative merchandising empire, is created.

Even though "The Simpsons" is nowhere near the show it used to be, Matt Groening and company can still be subversive and lash out at its Fox overlords when they want to. Executive Producer Al Jean sat down with the New York Times yesterday and explained how they tracked down Banksy to do the couch gag sequence and how, save for a couple of cuts, what you see is more or less true to Banksy's original vision.
