We’re going to cop to some very enthusiastic fist-pumping when we heard news that music legend/”Punk Rock’s Poet Laureate” Patti Smith would be coming to Columbia College next month. When the folks at the Reader picked up the news, we were quick to agree with Miles Raymer’s assessment on the awesomeness of Patti Smith:

“If someone were charging 30 bucks a ticket to watch Patti Smith read the lunch menus for rural Michigan elementary schools, I would consider that fair.”

As would we, but as luck would have it, you can snag free tickets to Smith’s November 30 reading when she comes to town to participate in Columbia College’s Conversations in the Arts series. The Chicago-born Smith will be interviewed live onstage by radio host and Columbia Adjunct Professor, Terri Hemmert, of XRT.

RSVPs for the free tickets start tomorrow the 19, so be quick with the clicking if you want to get in—when Smith was last in town to do a reading from her novel Just Kids at the Harold Washington, the lines starting forming more than two hours in advance and capacity was reached in a few minutes.
