Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week:" North Coast "Old 38" Stout

2010_10_21_BOTW.jpg Monday night Rachelle Bowden, this site's first editor and forever "Chicagoist Prime," arranged a meetup of Chicagoist alumni that turned out to be well-attended by Chicagoistos and -as past. We were at Cole's and the weather was just a little bit chilly, which meant heartier brews were on the agenda.

Now Cole's (2338 N. Milwaukee) has a pretty solid beer list. The house stout on draft is a longtime favorite of ours from North Coast Brewing. Old 38 Stout, named after retired California steam train, is a freight train of a stout itself, with strong coffee notes and roasted barley on the palate and a crisp effervescence. Even better, Cole's pours it for $3 a pint every Monday.
