k-os To Play Lincoln Hall Saturday

2010_kos.jpg I'll drop the editorial "we" for a moment and admit that my hip-hop knowledge has dipped quite a bit in the past year or so. It's probably why I haven't told you to go check out any emcees in a while. Regardless, we at Chicagoist don't like to pass on tipping you off to good shows around the city, even if it means stepping outside of our individual bounds. The man I couldn't let slip away undetected is Canadian hip-hopper k-os.

k-os will play Lincoln Hall this Saturday, a rare spot for hip-hop shows. Nevertheless, k-os will be there to bring on his wide-ranging sonic styles and vocal aesthetic. He's the type of musician that truly defies categorization. Some tracks he'll spit rhymes, others he'll belt out soulful choruses. This is what makes k-os so compelling; he's hip-hop in the loosest sense of the term. Take some of his albums for a spin and you'll be exposed to acoustic ballads, heavy hip-hop, and even soul funk. In a way, it's hip-hop broken down to its separate parts. It should be fun to see.

k-os is Saturday at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln, 10 p.m., 18+, $15
