Halloween time enables everyone to take a shot at sculpting. But instead of pumpkins, Jeffrey Breslow creates sculptures out of dead trees. The 67 year old West Loop artist has rejuvenated his hobby after leaving the work force. He creates abstract pieces that combine wood, stones and boulders, but he never cuts from living trees.

He searches the Chicagoland for interesting dead branches and takes them back to his studio. Maple is his favorite to work with, but he’s done numerous pieces with birch, locust and hawthorne wood. “I like using materials that you find out in nature. I really put things together,” Breslow told ABC news.

Breslow has permanent collections stretching from Chicago to California. He encourages people to stop by his studio, 1015 W. Fulton Market, to chat and see him at work.
