Never Too Early For Media To Speculate About Randy Moss

The NFL waiver wire is expected to be a scrum today with the expected waiver of wide receiver Randy Moss from the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears, given their record, are somewhere deep in the middle of he pack on the waiver wire claim list if Moss falls that far. Which he likely won't. We're talking about one of the greatest receivers ever to play his position. But that hasn't quelled speculation of a Moss-Bears marriage,

ESPN's Adam Schefter named the Bears as one of ten teams that could be interested in placing a waiver claim on Moss. But ESPN Chicago's Michael Wright doesn't think Moss would be a good fit. Tribune NFL Expert Dan Pompei notes the various reasons the Bears will likely not make a waiver claim for Moss. This includes the team's faith in their own top receivers, the "me first" baggage Moss would bring to the team, and the posibility that Moss would not be a good fit for Mike Martz's offensive system.

Then there are the people who say, "Why not?" Those cockeyed optimists include Sun-Times columnist Rick Morrissey, who said if the Bears don't make a run for Moss, they're crazier than the Vikings for letting him go. A few minutes ago on WSCR-AM, the cross talk between midday host Dan McNeil and Afternoon hosts Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein involved bringing in Moss simply to have the opportunity for Jay Cutler to throw two deep pass plays to Moss a game.

But if the unthinkable does happen and the Bears do make a waiver claim for Moss? Well, Brian Urlacher would be alright with that, so long as Moss behaved. Speaking on "The Dan Patrick Show" this morning, Urlacher said the possibility of Moss joining the team "wouldn't hurt my feelings."
