According to statistics announced yesterday by Police Superintendent Jody Weis, crime in Chicago has decreased for a 22nd straight month.
Weis said that total crime statistics decreased 3.7 percent; property offenses decreased 2 percent and the violent crimes index decreased by an impressive 9.8 percent. The total number of murders to date this year stands at 379, nine below the same time frame last year. Weis thanked the work of the Police Department in reducing the numbers.
There was one crime statistic that increased. the number of car thefts increased by 22.7 percent. That might make a better ad to take public transportation than anything CTA can come up with.
