Alexi For Mayor - Will G or Won't G? (G Won't.)

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Alexi Giannoulias has confirmed that won't be running for mayor, putting to bed any hopes of having a Man on 5 that comes to work rocking jeans and Blackhawks hats. After one full news cycle's worth of water-testing, Giannoulias is getting out of the pool early, making pickup b-ball games at the East Bank Club less safe for everyone.

Dan Mihalopoulos, reporting on Early and Often for the Chicago News Cooperative, cites a release sent to the CNC from Alexi G spokesperson Kathleen Strand that states, "To put all rumors to rest, before they get out of hand, Alexi is not running for mayor.” Despite seeing some friendly polling in his favor (as reported by Crains), Giannoulias could be doubling-down on his Presidential friendship, not wanting to put Obama in the position of being forced to decide between Rahm Emanuel and himself.

The slow march towards Rahmageddon continues.
