"Pig Virus," Laski Out At WGN

2010_11_12_metheny.jpg The Tribune Co. exodus that started with the departure of CEO Randy Michaels and "Chief Innovation Officer" Lee Abrams continued yesterday with the departure of Kevin Metheny (pictured) from WGN-AM. Also not letting the door hit him in the ass on the way out is former City Clerk and convicted felon Jim Laski, who came to epitomize Metheny's meddling management style as much as Howard Stern's nickname for Metheny - "Pig Virus."

In a statement announcing Metheny's departure, WGN vice president and general manager Tom Langmeyer said, "Our goal is to continue developing engaging and relevant programming while still keeping the hometown connection that Chicagoans have come to identify with WGN."

Metheny's overly hands-on approach to programming rubbed many at WGN the wrong way, but he had the support of the one man who mattered most in Michaels. With Michaels's resignation Metheny's days were numbered.

As for Laski, who had an abrasive, argumentative tone that can grate over the course of a three-hour program, there's always barber college.
