Mental Exam For Mother Accused of Murdering 4-Year-Old Delayed

Marci Webber
DuPage County Public Defender Jeff York was granted the delay because he has been unable to speak with Webber alone since her arrest. Webber has been on 24-hour suicide watch during her time in jail, requiring a sheriff's deputy to be on watch nearby at all times. She has already tried to slash her throat and wrist in jail. Judge George Bakalis has warned Webber that she can refuse to speak with the prosecution's mental health examiner, but if she chooses to do so and then pleads insanity, the prosecution can enter those discussions as evidence.
York also said that he hasn't received evidence or information regarding the case, hindering his ability to discuss the case with Webber and mount a defense. DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney Alex McGimpsey said York will receive that information later this week and be able to speak with Webber privately, but in a manner where she can still be monitored per the suicide watch.
