This weekend is the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's annual Holiday Art Sale of student work, which is free and open to the public (and if experience is any guide there will be a lot of public). On sale will be jewelry, prints, paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramics, with 85% of proceeds going to the artists and 15% to SAIC's Student Association.

If the idea of rubbing shoulders with hoi polloi (and the public is so polloi these days) doesn't appeal, there's a preview party Thursday night with tickets on sale now. If you don't feel like shelling out the cash for any early viewing -or you're self conscious about your off-brand monocle- don't worry, as Chicagoist will be vetting the show for you with some thoughts before the show opens Friday.

The preview is Thursday, November 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 a person or $60 per pair. The sale runs Friday, November 21, from 11a.m. to 7p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Both events are at the MacLean Center Ballroom at 112 S. Michigan Ave.
